Backroom Bootlegger

Your very first foray into the world of speakeasies. It gives you a way to sell your booze without having to spend every turn going around trying to sell what you make, so you can focus on exploring, getting to know people, and expanding territory.

The bootlegging ops don’t sell a lot each turn, but they do sell your goods for twice the price you get when you sell to businesses, so it’s a nice way of producing money in the background.

Full name of operation depends on type of booze sold, e.g. Backroom Brick Wine Bootlegger, Backroom Hard Cider Bootlegger, etc.

10 Moonshine every 28 days (4 turns)
30 Applejack (Pittsburgh) every 58 days (9 turns)
24 Fruit Wine (Detroit) every 35 days (5 turns)
24 Homemade Brandy (Philadelphia) every 35 days (5 turns)

Expanded Homemade Booze Bootlegger

Please note that the Fruit Wine bootlegger in Detroit and the Applejack bootlegger in Pittsburgh can’t be Improved. There is no option to make them return crocks. Their only upgrading/downgrading options are:

Applejack (Pittsburgh)Fruit Wine (Detroit)
DowngradeHard Cider (only)Brick Wine (only)
UpgradeApplejack
Hard Cider
Brick Wine
Fruit Wine

Improved Backroom Bootlegger

The Improved version returns as many Stoneware Crocks as the base number you sell, but this doesn’t scale up if you add expansions and level up the manager, so even if you get it to sell 20 Moonshine, you’ll still only get 10 Stoneware Crocks back.

Please note that the Fruit Wine bootlegger in Detroit and the Applejack bootlegger in Pittsburgh can’t be Improved. There is no option to make them return crocks, as detailed in the previous section.

Upgrading from Improved to Expanded gives you twice as many returned crocks.

Expanded Homemade Booze Bootlegger

An Expanded Bootlegger sells two types of T1 alcohol. The option you get to upgrade to is based on what the original one was. For instance, if you had a Backroom Brick Wine Bootlegger, your option will be the one that primarily sells Brick Wine, but you get to choose which other alcohol it sells.

Upgrading your basic or improved bootlegging op to this will trigger the mission to gain the skill allowing you to build (or upgrade to) a Corner Speakeasy.

If you upgrade to this from an Improved Backroom Bootlegger, you will keep getting crocks returned, but double the amount. If you upgrade this operation to a Corner Speakeasy, the crocks return stops.

All versions of the Expanded Homemade Booze Bootlegger have the same requirements and build cost/time, so I’m only listing what the different versions sell:

It appears you can’t upgrade a Hard Cider bootlegger to include Moonshine. I believe this to be a bug.

These two types of Expanded Bootleggers don’t give you an option what you want to sell aside from the main map specific booze. It’s fixed.
