The game is no longer being updated by SomaSim, so no further DLC will be added or bugs fixed.
The game is turn-based, every turn is one week. Game starts 1 June 1920 and officially ends in December 1933. There’s a mod allowing you to continue playing after Prohibition ends.
The game does not feature anything to do with narcotics or prostitution, only alcohol, gambling and extortion. There’s a mod to add those things, should you want to. See #mod-members on the official CoG Discord server for more info.
Versions
Epic Games runs version 1.4.3 (build 20220629E) and has a few known issues, but they did give away the base game for free.
Steam runs version 1.4.4 (build 20220801). The DLC are slightly cheaper than on Epic. GOG also runs version 1.4.4 (build 20220801G).
Saves
Save files (for Windows) are located under C:\Users\%userProfile%\AppData\LocalLow\SomaSim\City of Gangsters
To copy over save files from Epic to Steam, go into the saves-epic folder, and locate the save you’re after (looking at the date of it is probably going to be easiest), and copy that folder. Go to the saves folder and paste.
The game should recognise the save and open the save just fine, but depending on differences in installed DLCs, it could potentially stop working at some point, see also: ⤵️
DLC
Word of caution about adding Shadow Government DLC: If you have an ongoing game and then buy and install Shadow Government, odds are that at some point, your game save will break beyond repairing. You will have to start it again from scratch.
