Buying from businesses

“Type” refers to how it’s packed, so you can see how many you might fit into a vehicle.

“Sell?” is whether or not you can sell the resource if you have more than you need/want. If it says “no”, your only option is to either use it up or put it into one of your buildings and delete it. If it says yes, it means you can, at least in theory, sell the item somewhere on the map – it does not mean that buyers are readily available.

“Cost” refers to the base price for buying 1. This info is from the in-game encyclopedia (except where it wasn’t listed) but was correct when I did a few spot checks.“Commonly sold by” are the places where you are most likely to find the resource. Doesn’t mean you can’t find them elsewhere, or that every instance of that type of business sells them, only that those are usually the best places to look.

Some of the places you can buy things will make more sense than others. Wheat from a bakery? Sure, that makes sense, it’s used in baking. Wheat from a lumber yard or cold storage? Sorry, what? So while you can correctly guess where you can buy some things from – others aren’t as straightforward.

I haven’t listed Gemstones here, even though they do exist, because the only way you can come across them as a resource is by running a heist scheme in Philadelphia with a specific type of captain, and you have to find someone to fence them to. The map will let you know where you can do this, because it’s from missions you pick up in order to get rid of your loot. Prices may vary as well. See schemes and missions instead, which lists this in more detail.

Ingredients and materials used in manufacturing

Tobacco is listed here, despite it not actually being an ingredient in anything – not even for English outfits making Cigarettes! – but it’s an ingredient in theory, and you can buy it, or have the misfortune of having a building that produces it for you to continuously discard because you can’t sell it anywhere.

Weapons

A bunch of these you can’t buy, so your only option is to raid rival/corner hooligan safe houses, kill rivals/hooligans, use your police connections or raid the passenger train station armory at the beginning of each year.
