The questions we most commonly encounter on the CoG Discord server.
General
How do I unfavorite something from the Resource Overlay map?
It’s weirdly straightforward and convoluted at the same time. If more than one resource is selected, unselect the one(s) you want to unfavorite and press the add favorite button at the top. If all of them are unselected and you press the add favorite button, they all get unfavorited.
Why does it give a notification for EVERY successful auto-route step?
Why indeed. Fortunately, you can switch those off. On the main loading screen (so before you’ve loaded into a game), go to Settings > Gameplay > scroll to the bottom and change Delivery Tickers to “Only Failure Warnings”. That way you only get notified if there’s an actual problem. Note that the Gameplay part of settings isn’t available if you’re on a map, so you need to do it before loading, or save and exit to main menu and then reload.
How many turns are there? Can I continue playing after Prohibition ends?
There are 706 turns. Or 705, because Prohibition ends in #706. You can continue to play after that, if you so choose.
Is the game still being developed? Will we get more DLC or bug fixes?
Sadly the answer is no to all of those questions. It appears they stopped developing it in 2022. Some bug fixes you can do yourself, which are listed in places like Known issues.
Crew
Can I get rid of (fire/kill/delete) crew members?
No, once you’ve hired them they’re yours for life. You can only get rid of them by having them killed by a rival or hooligan. But then you face the issue of paying their family $20 per turn until the game ends, or the relationship penalty with them if you refuse.
How do I pay my crew?
That’s the neat part; you don’t. As long as you have enough money inside any of your buildings to pay crew salaries, the crew is paid automatically (i.e. money is deducted from the building).
How can I make my crew lay low?
Remove them from their car and don’t put them in a building, so they’re sitting around unassigned. Still heard a report saying they were attacked, but haven’t ever experienced that myself and not sure how it would work, since unassigned crew aren’t on the map.
Territory
How do I defend/protect a front from being attacked?
Send one or more armed crew members to the corner (click the notification icon to see which one is threatened) and have them wait there until the front has been attacked. As long as at least one person is there to protect it, it should be fine.
What happens if I don’t protect a front?
You lose it, and possibly the territory that depended on it.
Gambling
How can I stop a gambler from skipping town?
You can’t. Whether they skip or not is a random outcome. Parking crew around the house does nothing to improve those odds and doesn’t stop someone from running away.
Why does my gambling house keep running out of money?
You have one of the high maintenance features installed in it. Either get rid of the problem feature (usually roulette or blackjack), level up your gambling manager to decrease the odds of winning, or make sure you have a sufficiently large buffer to not run out of money.
Can I automate gambling extortion?
No, sorry. Visiting indebted gamblers is too random, so it has to be done manually. You are, of course, free to not pursue gambling debts if you so choose. That’s an option. Switching your gambling houses to only have features that attract occasional players is another.
Productions
If a production has more than one recipe, does it do all of them at the same time if I have enough ingredients?
No, it will do them one after another. The first recipe until it no longer can, then switch to the next one in the list. The Bottling Operation is a good example:
If you have a stack of, say, three of each barrel, it won’t give you 484 bottles of booze every four turns for three production cycles. It will give you 121 bottles of whiskey every four turns for three production cycles. When it’s run out of whiskey barrels, it will move on to the next type, and give you 121 bottles of brandy for three cycles, then rum, then vodka. So you don’t need to keep stock for every recipe, only keep it stocked for the recipe you want to use, or you’re wasting space. Another example is the Improved Backroom Distillery:
If you have corn syrup, it will do the corn syrup recipe. If you have corn syrup and industrial alcohol, it will do the corn syrup recipe until it runs out of corn syrup. If you only have industrial alcohol, it will do the industrial alcohol recipe – but if you don’t have at least 54 bottles in stock the production will stall due to lack of ingredients.
